FCCLA Members Attend District 3 Meeting

The New Rockford-Sheyenne FCCLA Chapter attended the District 3 Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Leadership Meeting that took place at Hope Church in Grand Forks on Oct. 23, with nearly 250 district members in attendance. District 3 consists of members from Dakota Prairie, Drayton, Edmore, Grafton, Grand Forks, Hatton-Northwood, Langdon Area, May-Port CG, Midway, Minto, New Rockford-Sheyenne, Park River Area and Valley-Edinburg school districts. The meeting was presided over by Kiarra Hodek, District 3 President from Langdon Area Schools, assisted by her advisor, Mrs. Amy Kram. Kiarra was assisted by the other district officers including our very own, Kayahna Hopfauf, our chapter president and district VP of STAR Events.  

The day was filled with leadership opportunities that helped the FCCLA members gain leadership skills and experience.

The Keynote Speakers were Corporal Beth Skari, Grand Forks Red River Resource Officer and Sergeant Danny Pemberton who spoke to the students about situational awareness and what they can do to protect themselves. A range of topics were covered and the students were made aware of the dangers of distracted driving as well as what to do in situations that are dangerous. There were also breakout sessions the members could attend, which included: FACTS national program with Michael Kurtti, ND FCCLA VP of Finance, 2016-17; STAR Events presentation with May-Port CG Chapter Members; Student Body/Mental Health in Teen with Brynn Kroke, Dakota Prairie Member; and Community Service Project of– making tie blankets for local agencies in need.  

During the Miracle Minute and the Dress For A Cause District 3 had collected over $800 dollars, that will be donated towards Children’s Miracle Network. Over 650 CVIC donation items had been collected, and several tie blankets had been made to be delivered to local social service agencies as well.  

The day concluded with installation of the new slate of District officers, including our very own Macey Wobbema, District VP of Hospitality, who will serve the 2019-20 year.

The District 3 Leadership Meeting was a great success, all thanks to the hard work and dedication of the members as well as the advisers.

Ms. Caitlin Good, assisted with advising one of the breakout sessions and presiding over the District President questioning session, as well as all of the preparation work involved in getting ready for the day.

Several members played a role in the success of the day, including Kayahna Hopfauf, Mya Cudworth, Macey Wobbema, Kyria Dockter, and Lora Wobbema. Due to the dedication of the members and advisers, the day was a great day for all in attendance.
