Cam Pierson benefit planned for Sept. 21

A medical benefit will be held for Cam Pierson on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Buck-it’s Bar. A free will supper will begin at 5 p.m. Raffle tickets are on sale now, and will be available the night of the event.

Pierson was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx early in the summer, and he was told that he had a very high success rate with chemotherapy and radiation.

His treatments began July 15 and continued for seven weeks, until Sept. 4. Cam’s daughter Jessica Duda reported on July 30, that after 11 rounds of radiation, “He’s a trooper and is handling this pretty well!! He is tired for the most part of his days... Next Tuesday he will do a round of chemo. The doc said he will be happy if dad gets two rounds of chemo but would like to see three rounds. I think we would all like to see three rounds!!”

On August 14, Cam completed his final chemotherapy treatment, and according to Jessica, “He’s one hell of a fighter that’s for sure and I couldn’t be more proud of him! It’s mentally and physically draining for him and he just keeps on keeping on! We got really good news from his swallow test so he’s allowed sips of water and he will try cottage cheese and see how that goes. You have no idea how exciting that is for him! Gives him the hope he needs.”

After 34 rounds of radiation, Cam completed his last treatment on Sept. 4.

While he recovers, the medical bills continue to accumulate.
