Harriers compete at Northwood, Carrington

NR-S' cross country team had several quick trips around state golf courses in the past week's worth of meets, competing in Northwood on Aug. 29 and at the Carrington Invitational at CrossRoads Golf Course this past Tuesday, Sept. 3.

In Northwood, the Rockets had four top-25 times in their various divisions, led by junior varsity girls' competitor Katie Allmaras in eighth place out of 44 runners in 14:09 for the 3,000-kilometer race. Teammate Kaiya O'Connor took home 21st in the JV race as well in 15:33.

Varsity runners Mya Cudworth finished in 25th (25:12) and Chloe Heinz 40th (27:10), respectively, out of 56 total contestants running in the 5K.

The Rockets' only entrant on the boys' side, Harrison Joseph, finished 23rd of 47 runners for a time of 14:14 in that junior varsity division.

Moving on to Carrington, conditions were favorable, though a bit breezy, for numerous area programs to take to the fairways and shelterbelts.

With both Cudworth and O'Connor absent due to scheduling conflicts with a volleyball match later that day, just three runners participated at CrossRoads.

Heinz ran her best time of the season, 22:07, to take 10th in varsity girls, and Allmaras cut her best 3K time by over half a minute to finish in third (13:36) for the JVs.

Joseph was 26th with a 14:32 clocking for the JV boys.

The Rockets will be off until Saturday, Sept. 14, when they run at Grahams Island State Park west of Devils Lake starting at 11 a.m.
