Youth actors present "School House Rock Jr."

The DPRCA Dakota Spark Opera House Youth Actors are making the final preparations of the production, "School House Rock Junior"

That's right, the Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series turned pop culture phenomenon is now the basis for one of the most fun youth musicals ever to hit the stage.

This energetic show follows a young schoolteacher who is nervous about the first day of teaching. While trying to relax by watching TV, various characters representing facets of the teacher's personality emerge from the set and show how to win the students over with imagination and music.

Memorable songs include "Just a Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction" that bring the teacher's lesson plans vividly to life.

This special show premiered on Friday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Old Church Theatre, New Rockford. Performances on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18 at 2:30 p.m. round out the run.

General admission tickets cost $5 at the door.

Opera House Youth Actors is part of the Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts summer arts programming, which allows students of various ages and abilities tap into and develop their creative skills.
