Thursday, Aug. 1, Jake, Amanda, Fallyn and Piper Hegland met Jarvis and Patty Hegland and their grandson Silas Zietz, for supper at Harriman’s in Maddock. Sunday, Aug. 4, Amanda’s brother, Ryder Weischedel and his wife, Alyssa of Jamestown were lunch guests of the Heglands. Sunday afternoon, Jake and Amanda brought the girls to Devils Lake to swim.

Dianne and Carlyle Nelson of Newtown, Conn., visited Carlyle’s dad, James Nelson for a week. During the week, they visited the Spirit Lake Casino, had lunch with their favorite fishing guide Chris Koth, took many tours of Sullys Hill and enjoyed many other local sights. Friday night, Aug. 2, the Nelson’s attended the Fort Totten Pow Wow and parade. A good time was had by all.

Howard and Helen Schmid visited Helen’s sister, Lenora Thomas, in Spicer, Minn. for a few days this week.

The bridal shower for Elisa and Breana Buehler will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Thursday, Donna Grann along with Amanda Johnson, Robin Arnold, Karen Johnson, Elise Burwell and Tori Robinette attended the Garden Dwellers’ Farm to Table Dinner. A meal of lamb and fresh vegetables was enjoyed by all. Friday night, Lacey Grann baked a cake for Elise Burwell’s birthday and the John Grann and Derek Johnson families enjoyed cake and ice cream. Saturday, Donna Grann attend the memorial service for Mark Motis. The rest of the family competed in the rodeo in Richardton. They took John along to push calves and drive.

Nadley Buehler visited her parents, Ken and Mona Dempsey in Alsip, Ill., a few days last week. While there, she attended her childhood church, Salem Lutheran Church in Blue Island, and visited family and friends. Nadley visited her nephew, Kris Dempsey and Noelle Federenco of Orlando Park Sunday afternoon. Nadley joined Kathy Arvia of Chicago for breakfast Tuesday morning. Brian and Lisa Dempsey also visited at their parents’ home in Alsip Tuesday afternoon. Elisa Buehler visited the Buehler family at the farm last weekend. Nadley visited Elisa and Joe Wentz in Bismarck Wednesday afternoon. Nadley attended the porch party hosted by Marlene Hendrickson Saturday afternoon. Scott Thompson and Don Danielson of Devils Lake visited Todd Buehler Sunday afternoon.

Recently, our neighbor, Mr. Syl Brown’s son Bob of Las Vegas presented Dave Madson with a beautiful patchwork quilt. The tag says, “Quilts for Veterans. Patchwork from Nevada. Made in the Carson Valley of Nevada. In Appreciation for the sacrifices you have made for us!!” Dave was very grateful for this honor. Last Tuesday evening, Dave, Linda, Melodie, Kennedee and McKenzee celebrated Mr. Syl’s 92nd birthday with a cake. Last Wednesday evening, the Madson’s traveled to Medora. Thursday, there was shopping and good food and treats and enjoying the sights. Thursday evening, the group enjoyed the Pitchfork Fondue and the musical. Friday morning, they left Medora on their way to visit Stacy Madson in Ranchester, Wyo. Saturday, Dave and Linda’s granddaughter, Haley Madson joined the group and spent the day. Everyone enjoyed shopping and lunch in Sheridan, Wyo. Haley will be student teaching in Sheridan for a semester. Monday, Dave, Linda, Kennedee and Mckenzee joined Jo and Todd Johnson, Haley, grandson Nathan Madson and his girlfriend, Bailey and Jo’s mother, Jodee Johnston and Stacy at the Sheridan County Courthouse. The State of Wyoming named the Juvenile Justice Award after Neal and the office he managed was the recipient of the award. It is the Neal D. Madson Excellence in Juvenile Justice Award. It is given each year recognizing one county for its outstanding work with juvenile offenders. Our family was honored to be invited to attend this ceremony. Following the presentation, Dave, Linda, Melodie, Kennedee, McKenzee, and Stacy joined Nathan and his girlfriend, Bailey for lunch at a Sheridan restaurant. Nathan is learning to be a chef at a Denver restaurant. The Madsons returned home on Tuesday. Sunday, following services at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon, Dave and Linda visited Carrie Madson, Paul Prince and Paul’s brother, Jay who is visiting from Colorado, at the Madson farm. Sunday afternoon, Dave and Linda stopped to see Shawn and Cathy Caulfield and Brandon, Sarah, Paige and Easton Caulfield at their campsite at Grahams Island State Park.

Thursday evening, Pam Schmid and Jane Smith took in the DPRCA production of “Oklahoma!” in New Rockford. Tom and Pam went to Minnewaukan to the “Rock the Lake” celebration last weekend. Jakob was home last weekend from Bismarck. Sunday, Tom and Pam visited Pam’s dad, Bud Hermanson and her brother, Dan in Hampden.

Doris Griffin finished her carving lessons and her project on Saturday. The picture she sent me showed that she did a wonderful job. It is beautiful.

Marlene Hendrickson aided by Carol Hendrickson and Molly Herrington entertained the following ladies at her annual, fun, porch party held at her home Nadley Buehler, Tina Corrington, Sandy Poulsen, Carrie Madson, Marjorie Rice, Jan Loe, Rita Sorlie, Melodie Madson, Linda Madson, Gloria Rud, Mary Ellen Rue, Linda Winning, Janice Hager, Kay Griffin, Marjean Woodrow, Liz Anderson, Delores Georgeson, Lisa Wobbema, and Whitney Cole and her son, Gus. A delicious lunch was served and there was a lot of visiting, laughter and fun. Each of the ladies had their picture taken with Marlene and all left with a gift from Marlene.

Thursday, Jake, Amanda and Piper Hegland traveled to Minneapolis to keep Piper’s medical appointments. Fallyn stayed with Amanda’s parents, Terry and Nancy Weischedel in Gettysburg, S.D. While she was there, she went to the Sully County Fair, watched the rodeo and participated in the stick horse rodeo.

Thought to remember: If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.
