Three graduated seniors from the NR-S Rocket football program put on the pads one last time for the annual North Dakota Shrine Bowl, which was held Saturday, July 13, at Cushman Field in Grand Forks.
Rocket representatives at the game were quarterback Teddy Allmaras, and defensive ends Joey Gray and Tucker Longnecker. The three were part of the Nine-Man East squad coached by Thompson's Brady Schwab.
All three played roles in the East Team's 28-18 win over their Western counterparts, completing a sweep for the easterners which began with a 27-7 victory in the 11-Man game.
Allmaras completed 8-for-12 through the air for 51 yards in the game, and also had 42 yards rushing on six attempts. Longnecker and Gray got extended looks at the West offense and made several pressures and tackles in the win.
The total offense leader for the East in the game was Thompson's Marcus Hughes, who had 121 yards receiving on 13 receptions, ran five times for 37 yards, and even threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Allmaras' fellow signal-caller, Reese Hanson of May-Port-CG, threw for two scores and 109 yards (10-for-16). Much of the West offense ran through New Salem-Almont's Evan Henke (12-for-19, 173 yards; 17 carries-87 yards).
In the 11-Man contest, local flavor was provided by Carrington's Drew Page, who had two receptions for 41 yards for the East from his running back spot. Park River/Fordville-Lankin's Adam Zavalney had two touchdowns to help lead in the win.
Parents of the Rocket players are Linus and Susette Allmaras, Eric and Lisa Longnecker, and Joe and Erin Greiner. Drew's parents are Michael and Kristee Page of Carrington.
