Black Sox go 3-0 in weekly district games

The Post 30 Black Sox of New Rockford put some distance between themselves and some of their other pursuers in the District 4 seeding race with three wins this past week.

On Friday, June 28, Teddy Allmaras made the most lasting impact with New Rockford’s only two hits, and shut out Harvey Post 28 to three hits in a 2-0 win for the Legionnaires of Raymond B. Thorn. Allmaras did not walk a batter, and struck out seven.

Gage Balfour pitched admirably for Harvey, still winless in District 4, notching six strikeouts while working around four free passes. Hits for the 28’ers came from Matt Kittelson, Owen McKinven and Landen Monge.

The two teams had a fairly-competitive first three innings in their non-counter nightcap, with New Rockford holding a 5-3 lead. However, the Black Sox exploded for an eight-run fourth inning and held off Harvey to win by 10-run rule, 13-3.

Hunter Thompson got the win with three good innings of work, and also went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs driven in. Others with a pair of hits included Nick Berglund and Allmaras, and also adding singles were Johnny Grann, Alex Harrison, Kaden Jensen and Nathan Holzwarth.

McKinven notched the one hit for Harvey in game two.

Coming back to Jim Johnson Park last Monday, the Black Sox entertained Post 235 of Rolette/Rolla, and won two league affairs, 14-4 and 19-9. The second game was a make-up contest originally scheduled for June 17 in Rolla.

Big third innings were the common thread in both games. New Rockford put up a seven-spot in game one, and had an eight-run rally in the finale for the dominating sweep.

Thompson and Allmaras had multi-hit efforts in the opener, and Longnecker had the one extra-base hit and got the victory from the hill.

For the boys from Northern Lights, Trevor DeCoteau and Xavier Mitchell had dual two-hit games and a double each.

Game two witnessed three-hit nights from Holzwarth, with two doubles, four runs and three RBIs to his credit, along with Longnecker. On the bases, Bo Belquist swiped four steals, and pitched four innings before tiring and giving way to Harrison in the final inning.

DeCoteau drove in three runs, and had three hits and a double for Post 235. Mitchell repeated his two-hit performance, and Kelby Gingerick added two hits with a double.

After the four-win stretch of games, Post 30 sat at 6-2 in District 4 play and 10-3 overall pending their Tuesday games with Carrington (see related story).
