In a pair of home games last week, New Rockford Raymond B. Thorn Post 30 found themselves on both ends of the win-loss spectrum.
Cando Post 79 broke open a pitcher's duel in the fifth, and scored seven late runs to surge past the Black Sox by a 7-2 final score Monday night, June 24.
Following failure to score in the first few innings with several runners on, the Bearcats used some small ball and slipshod Post 30 defense to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the inning and chase starter Bo Belquist.
New Rockford trimmed Cando's lead to 3-2 in the sixth, with Alex Harrison's RBI single part of the rally. However, the North Star/Leeds co-op pulled away in the seventh with a four-spot.
Ian Knutson had two hits and a pair of runs driven in for Post 79. Also collecting RBIs were Keaton Nelsen and Thomas Nikolaisen.
Pitching five innings for Cando was Austin Wagner, who got the win thanks to his offense and Nikolaisen's two innings of scoreless relief.
A planned second game between the two teams was rained out.
Things rectified themselves for the 'Sox the next night, when they scored early and often in a 15-1 rout over Post 28 of Harvey.
Tucker Longnecker threw five efficient innings, and carried the Post 30 offensive efforts with two doubles and three RBIs in a 3-for-4 evening. Teddy Allmaras also had three hits, drove in four and scored four times, and Nathan Holzwarth blazed a trail around the bases with a quartet of tallies also to go along with two hits.
The victorious SNR effort also featured two-hit nights by Alex Harrison and Hunter Thompson, and Bo Belquist had three runs and a stolen base.
Matt Kittelson, Logan Jenner and Gage Balfour had Post 28's hits.
In the non-counter second game, Harvey raced out to a 5-0 lead, but the 'Sox chipped away and got the winner in the bottom of hte fourth, and held on for a 6-5 win.
Luke Ystaas was the only player with more than one hit, as he cracked a double and Longnecker a triple in the win.
Harrison got the win in relief, throwing two scoreless frames.
Post 30 now sits at 3-2 in District 4 play and 6-3 overall.
