Eddy County Sheriff's Annual Fishing Derby: Fishin's the Mission

The annual Eddy County Sheriff's Fishing Derby took place on the morning of Saturday, June 1, bringing over 40 youth anglers out of their homes and to the river. From the New Rockford reservoir to the green gates of the James River, young anglers put their best tackle and techniques to the test.

In the youngest category, (ages 2-6), Westin Myrhe landed first place, C.J. Schmaltz took second and Madi Schmaltz placed third.

The middle category, (ages 7-10), saw Charles Jorenson hooking first place. Austin Weisenburger came in for second place and Cordell Myhre placed third.

In the category for ages 11-16, Mathew Schuster reeled in first place. Alex Weisenberger place in second, and Aiden Ekstrom landed third.

Mason Schuster was awarded for catching the largest fish overall- a 6 lb. 8 oz. northern pike.
