Dakota Recreation Report - June 10, 2019

Tournaments:

*June 15: Devils Lake, 6-Mile Bay; Lake Sakakawea, Fort Stevenson State Park; Lake Sakakawea, Sportsmen Centennial.

*June 16: Lake Audubon, Totten Trail; Tolna Dam.

Fishing:

*Devils Lake elevation, June 4: 1,449.07 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

*Stump Lake elevation: 1,448.97 MSL.

*Lake Sakakawea elevation: 1,848.36 MSL; 14,700 cubic feet per second average (CFS) Garrison Dam daily releases.

*N.D. Game and Fish Dept. Dist. game wardens: No reports from area lakes, Devils Lake, or Missouri River System.

*Devils Lake, Ed’s Bait Shop, Devils Lake: Fair to good walleye success in the evening around the bridges, especially Hwy. 20 bridge. Most activity remains west in warmer, shallower water. Try leeches from boats or slip bobbers and crankbaits. Also try pitching leeches from shore, as well

*Devils Lake, Lakeview Lodge, Minnewaukan: Improving walleye activity. Continue working shallow, warm water in areas such as Pelican Lake and northern feeder lakes using nightcrawlers. Look for the crankbait bite to start soon. Good white bass success, Try 6-Mile Bay.

*Devils Lake, Woodland Resort, Devils Lake: Improving walleye success with spinners and leeches although some anglers continue using slip bobbers. Try 10 feet and work out with spinners around Howard’s Bay and along the highways or Pelican Lake. Use caution accessing Pelican Lake, though.

*Foster County area lakes, Dry Dock, Carrington: Water temperatures warming with more anglers out on area lakes. Limited reports, however.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Pioneer Bait and Tackle, Jamestown: Jamestown Reservoir producing a mix of species with overall fair success. Continued activity throughout smaller area lakes, especially north and west of Jamestown.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: Jamestown Reservoir improving for walleye has water temperatures warm. Some crappie mixed in. Fair walleye activity continues on smaller area lakes.

*Lake Ashtabula, Ashtabula Crossing, Luverne: Generally fair success with increasing activity throughout the lake as water temperatures warm.

*Lake Ashtabula, Bayshore, Valley City: Improving success for a mix of species. Try shallow for panfish. Water clarity is good.

*Lake Sakakawea, Cenex Bait and Tackle, Garrison: A few more anglers on the east end of Lake Sakakawea with better walleye success coming from Douglas Bay. Try live bait rigs or jigs and minnows early morning or late afternoon. Also try Sportsmen Centennial or Garrison bays. Lake Audubon remains fair for walleye with better success on nightcrawlers rather than minnows. No Missouri River reports.

*Lake Sakakawea, Indian Hills Resort, Garrison: Walleye bite remains slow but fish seem to be moving east with improving success around the beacon. Try jigs and minnows in a variety of depths.

*Lake Sakakawea/Lake Audubon/Missouri River, Scott’s Bait and Tackle, Pick City: Some walleye success down river during the day using jigs and minnows or Lindy rigs and nightcrawlers with trout and salmon mixed in from the chutes working down river. Some trout and walleye from shore off the rocks in the morning and evening. Also try the boat ramp area and campground. No catfish reports. Lake Sakakawea OK for walleye but move around to locate with no pattern yet. Try slow presentation with Lindy rigs or slow death hooks and nightcrawlers or minnows. Also try pitching jigs up towards shore in shallow water. Best success is along the north shore. Continued pike success in the shallows using smelt or crankbaits.

*Lonetree WMA area lakes, Harvey: Goose Lake improving for walleye but limited reports from other area lakes.

*Pipestem Reservoir, Pioneer Bait and Tackle, Jamestown: No new reports.

*Pipestem Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: No reports.

*Spiritwood Lake, Pioneer Bait and Tackle, Jamestown: Not many reports.

*Spiritwood Lake, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: No new reports.

N.D. rivers:

*James River, Kensal: River stage, 2.59 feet; streamflow, 17.7 CFS.

*Pembina River, Walhalla: River stage, 2.54 feet; streamflow, 180 CFS.

*Red River, Grand Forks, River stage, 20.30 feet; streamflow, 10,300 CFS.

*Sheyenne River, Warwick: River stage, 2.98 feet; streamflow, 55 CFS.
