Schaefer takes 14th at State Boys' Golf

The final weeks of the high school boys' golf season were the time for NR-S' Ben Schaefer to show his progression as a budding competitor on the links.

Following a second-place performance in the individual standings at the Region 2 Golf Meet in Carrington, the Rocket junior put together 18-hole rounds of 79 and 84 for a score of 163 and 14th place overall at the State Class B Boys' Golf Meet at Jamestown Country Club last Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28-29.

Schaefer finished just 13 strokes behind state champion Parker Bartels of Kindred (76-74-150), whose win vaulted the Vikings to the team title as well with 625 strokes. Bartels prevailed over second-place finisher Grayson Wetch of Oak Grove, who shot 153.

Region 2 boasted the top three Class B teams this season on the boys' state leaderboard. Behind Kindred were the Grovers, with 649, and third place went to Hillsboro-Central Valley at 684.
