Obituary: Norris Rud

Norris Conrad Rud, 94, of passed away May 25, 2019 at the CHI St. Alexius Health Center in Carrington, N.D. The funeral service was held May 30, at Grandfield Lutheran Church in rural Sheyenne, N.D. Burial was in the Grandfield Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Halvorson officiated with special music provided by Mary Ellen Rue. Casket bearers were Kris Rud, Dusty Lawson, Geoff Blegen, Darrin King, Preston King, Kent Myhre, Levi Rue, Dylan Rue and Greg Rue. Honorary pallbearers were congregation members of the Grandfield Lutheran Church.

Norris was born on Oct. 14, 1924 to Fred and Anna (Hendrickson) Rud. He grew up on the farm and attended the Grandfield Country Schoolhouse until the eighth grade. Norris married Gloria Berglund on Aug. 3, 1951 in Sheyenne.

Norris was a member of the Grandfield Township Board for more than 30 years. He drove school bus for the Sheyenne Public School for 12 years.

Norris was a member of Grandfield Lutheran Church his entire life. He served as the bell ringer for 50 years, taking over for his father. He also served on the cemetery board.

He is survived by his wife; son, Neal (Deb) Rud, New Rockford; daughter, Sheryl (Gene) Heisler, Velva, N.D.; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Carol Rud, Binford, N.D..

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shirley; brother Harold; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys (Pete) Tveito.
