Rockets send 8 to state track & field meet

At the North Central Region track meet in Rugby on Friday, May 17, NR-S put the finishing touches on their list of performers for this past weekend's State Track Meet at the Community Bowl in Bismarck.

The Rockets got eight new event qualifications to add to the five accumulated by the Belquist siblings, Bo and Kelsie, in regular season meets.

The junior Belquist won the regional titles in the boys' 100 (11.40 seconds) and 200-meter dashes (23.21) for automatic qualification by placement as well as time, and added a sixth event by running with teammates Parker Granger, Billy Fleming and Nick Berglund in the second-place 4x400-meter relay with a 3:46.11 time.

Girls' hurdler Hannah Haley took qualifying berths in the 100 and 300-meter events, placing third in both. Brianna Price was second in the 400-meter dash for another meet slot, and Kelsie Belquist added her third individual event with a runner-up 34'1" leap in the triple jump.

The trio also made the state field in the 4x400 with Elizabeth Widmer, finishing in second place in that event.

In the team races, and in no surprise, Rugby rolled to both the boys' and girls' North Central titles with 200-plus point tallies. The Rocket girls took fifth with 52 points, while the boys (41) came in seventh.
