Rockets compete at Lloyd Invitational in Fessenden

The first outdoor track meet of the season for the NR-S Rockets opened to balmy temperatures, and the team responded with some impressive showings.

At the Clark and Sharon Lloyd Memorial Invitational, held in Fessenden last Tuesday afternoon, April 16, the Rocket boys' team scored 47 points to place fifth and the girls earned a sixth-place tie with 43.

Bo Belquist became the Rockets' first automatic state qualifier, winning the triple jump with a 42'4" effort that exceeded the 41'6" provisional standard. He also took event titles in the 100-meter dash in 11.53 seconds as well as the 200 (23.76), and was the runner-up in the 400.

In the sprints, Parker Granger ran 11.73 to take third in the 100, and his time of 24.84 earned an eighth-place point in the 200-meter dash.

The other male placer in the top eight for NR-S at the Lloyd was Kaden Jensen, taking seventh in the triple jump with a 38' 1 1/2" leap.

The girls' portion of the meet featured a pair of third places by Elizabeth Widmer in the 800 (2:31.94) and the triple jump (31'4").

Another multi-event placer was seventh grader Kelsie Belquist, who scored in three events. Belquist was fourth in the 400 in 1:03.94, sixth in the 200 (28.66) and seventh in the long jump (14'11") for the Rockets.

Chloe Heinz took home fourth and sixth in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.

Additional placing efforts came from Brianna Price, fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 400, along with Hannah Haley in the 100 and 300-meter hurdle races, where she took fifth and seventh, respectively.
