Egg found by two boys with two clues

Two boys went sniffin' around for the Chamber's golden Easter egg on Tuesday, April 16, and they just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Noah Wobbema and cousin Chaztin Wobbema set out after school on a hint from Noah's mom, Ann. She said that Monday's clue "Before the beginning" might have something to do with the railroad and/or the center of town. After all, New Rockford was built around the railroad more than 135 years ago.

While searching a safe distance from the tracks just north of the Eagles Club, one boy saw a glimmer of gold out of the corner of his eye hidden in one of the wooden spools stashed there. And there it was!

Interestingly enough, after reading the "clues" inside the egg, the pair learned that the hunt wasn't about the railroad at all, but rather the New Rockford Transcript newspaper. The county's official newspaper since 1883, the Transcript was in business "before the beginning" when the town was established. Tuesday's clue "there have been 8, but remember 6" refers to the number of publishers the newspaper has had. The sixth was Ed Doherty, and when he was publisher the Transcript operated out of a building north of the Eagles Club at the corner of Central Avenue and Eighth Street. That building was demolished nearly 20 years ago. The other clues set to be released were "black and white," "Doherty" and "chronicles." Noah and Chaztin won Chamber bucks for their efforts.
