Obituary: Beatrice Gussiaas

Beatrice Catherine Gussiaas, 83, passed away on Jan. 15, 2019, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington. The funeral service was held Jan. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial at the Carrington Cemetery, Carrington. Father Terry Dodge officiated and special music was provided by Jennifer Hoornaert and the Sacred Heart Choir.

Beatrice was born in rural Orrin, N.D., on Nov. 15, 1935, to Anton and Frances (Mack) Heintz. Beatrice had worked for the Orville and Ann Lundby family near Sykeston providing childcare and household tasks. She married Luverne Gussiaas on Nov. 24, 1959. Together they raised five children.

Beatrice, also known as Beatty, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Carrington Health Center Auxiliary, cherishing her volunteer time at the Happy Heart Hutch.

She leaves behind her children: Janel (Rick) Harrington, Carrington; Julie (the late Keith) Peterson, Robinson, N.D.; Michael (Stacey) Gussiaas, New Rockford, N.D.; Becki (Jeff) Wolf, Robinson; and Joel (Marvae) Gussiaas, New Rockford; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers: Zeno, Eugene, Jimmy and Tony; one sister, Betty; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Gussiaas, Mabel Bittner and Judy Swanson along with a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends, especially Angie Oster.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, grandson Jarett Wolf, a son-in-law, two brothers, Daniel and Dennis; three sisters, Magdalene, Adeline and Rosemary.
