Obituary: Shirley Doeling

Shirley Mae Doeling, 93, of Carrington, N.D., passed away peacefully on Jan. 2, 2019. The funeral service was Jan. 11, at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington. Rev. Biberdorf officiated, special music was provided by Renee Hopkins and Deloris Doeling. Casket bearers were all her children, grandchildren, family and close friends.

Shirley Doeling was born on June 3, 1925 in Estabrook, N.D., the eldest of two daughters born to Jemima Frances and George Stephen Weller.

She grew up in Carrington and graduated from Carrington High School in 1943. She attended secretarial school, moved to Portland, Ore., where she worked in the business office of a fastener company. In Carrington, she worked in the business office at the Carrington Creamery and as office manager for the H. R. Doeling Tax Business.

Shirley married Herman Richard "Dick" Doeling. They had four children and Shirley worked as a full time mom. Shirley was an active participant in Grace Lutheran Church. She served as both member and leader in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, served as a leader in local American Cancer Society fundraising campaigns and later volunteered regularly at Carrington's Daily Bread.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Katherine and John Summers and Mary and Joseph Weller.

She is survived by her husband; son Paul Doeling; daughters: Dee (Forrest) Ramsel, Linda (Robert) Spencer, and Mary (Paul) Hlavinka; sister Mary Catherine Feld; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
