Allmaras named Senior Athlete; Belquist Coach of the Year in Region 2

One area football player stood head and shoulders above the rest, with the release of the All-Region 2 Team in the Nine-Man Football classification.

New Rockford-Sheyenne's Teddy Allmaras was named the Senior Athlete of the Year for the region.

It was impossible to ignore the stat lines from Allmaras, the Rockets' senior quarterback. The 5'11", 165-pound signal caller marched NR-S up and down the field to the tune of 2,240 yards passing and 35 touchdowns to just eight interceptions, and also rushed for 305 yards and five additional scores.

On the "X" side of the ball, Allmaras played another big role in the secondary. His three interceptions tied him for first on the Rockets, and he finished with 33 total tackles. Teddy is the son of Linus and Susette Allmaras of New Rockford.

Allmaras was merely one part of the Rockets' successful campaign, one in which the team advanced to the Nine-Man quarterfinal round and gave eventual champion Thompson their closest scare of this year's playoffs in defeat, 32-28.

Additional First Team selections included wide receiver/cornerback Bo Belquist, wide receiver/defensive end Tucker Longnecker, lineman/defensive end Joey Gray, wide receiver/cornerback Nathan Holzwarth and running back/linebacker Luke Ystaas.

For the Honorable Mention list, running back/linebacker Hunter Thompson, lineman/linebacker Keegan Anderson and offensive/defensive lineman Hunter Johnson were tabbed for NR-S.

Rocket's Coach Elliott Belquist was selected as the Nine-Man Region 2 Coach of the Year. He led NR-S to a 9-1 record and the regional championship for the first time since 2012, and just finished his 10th year at the helm. Belquist has a career record of 57-37.
