Winterfest feature: Holiday Fare

Below are just two of the many delicious holiday meals and treats available for sample at Miller’s Fresh Foods in New Rockford during their Taste of the Season event on Thursday! For a free will donation, you can pick up a recipe book with all the recipes at the store during the event.

Grandma’s Christmas Punch

Ingredients:

• 1 c. Our Family granulated sugar

• 1 ½ c. water

• 4 c. Our Family orange juice

• 46 oz can pineapple juice

• 10 oz jar maraschino cherries & the juice

• 2 liter bottle Our Family gingerale

Directions: Place sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Set this sugar syrup aside to cool

In a large pitcher or other container, combine cooled sugar syrup, orange juice, pineapple juice, cherries and the cherry juice. Stir until well mixed. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Just before serving, add gingerale to the juice mixture to taste. {Grandma usually mixes it about ½ juice mixture and ½ gingerale.} Makes 20 servings.

Peppermint Swirl Fudge

Ingredients:

•1-1/2 tsp. plus 3/4 cup Our Family butter • 3 cups Our Family sugar

• 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream

•10 - 12 oz. pkg. Our Family white baking chips

• 7 oz. jar marshmallow creme

• 1 pkg. unsweetened black cherry soft drink mix

Directions: Line a 13-in. x 9-in. pan with foil and grease the foil with 1-1/2 teaspoons butter; set aside. In a heavy saucepan, combine the sugar, cream and remaining butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook and stir for 4 minutes.

Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla chips and marshmallow creme. Pour 1 cup into a bowl; set aside. Stir black cherry drink mix into the remaining marshmallow mixture. Pour into prepared pan. Spoon reserved marshmallow mixture over top; cut through mixture with a knife to swirl.

Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Using foil, lift fudge out of pan. Discard foil; cut into 1-in. squares. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Makes 117 pcs.
