Tillie Swart, a sixth grader at New Rockford-Sheyenne School, earned first place in the local Lions International Peace Poster Contest. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace.
The New Rockford Lions Club sponsored the local contest and sought submissions from youth ages 11 to 13. The theme of the 2018-19 Peace Poster Contest was "Kindness Matters."
The posters were judged on artistic merit, expression of theme and originality. Brady Eichelberger served as the local chairperson and coordinated with the school for submissions.
Swart's top prize winning poster then went to the North Dakota State Lions Convention, where she earned third place overall.
Other local youth who placed in the local contest were Clayton Dubois and Kaiya O'Connor.
