Archers shoot straight at state

New Rockford-Sheyenne took 43 archers to the 2018 North Dakota NASP State Archery Tournament on March 23-24, and the team certainly ended the season on a high note.

The bus left early for the big trip to avoid traveling in challenging weather conditions, and they were the only team to shoot on Friday with a full roster!

At the tournament, the second year program netted some big results. Four qualified to compete in the All-State Shoot-off, two archers made the All-State Archery Team and two qualified for national competition.

The archers who received awards are pictured above, from left to right. Kaiya O'Connor finished in third place among elementary girls in the 3D tournament, eighth place in elementary girls' bullseye and qualified for the national tournament. Kyria Dockter earned third place in the middle school girls' 3D division. Koven Walford was number eight in high school boys' bullseye and qualified for the national tournament. Alex Weisenburger finished fourth among elementary boys in the 3D tournament and was named an All-State Archer. Bradyn Collier was also named an All-State Archer.

To qualify for the All-State Shoot-Out, archers must earn a minimum score at a regular season tournament (Elementary 240, Middle School 270, and High School 275). About 40 archers qualify per division, and the top 12 placers in each division at the shoot-out become All-State Archers.

Walford and O'Connor will compete at the 2018 Centershot Ministries National Tournament in Louisville, Ky. on May 10-12.
