Obituary: Charles Purdy

Charles (Chuck) Allen Purdy, 86, of Jamestown, passed away at the Veterans Home in Fargo, ND on January 24, 2018. The funeral service was held January 26, 2018 at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND. Rev. Bryce Tahran officiated. Burial was at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan, ND.

Charles Purdy was born June 19, 1931 to Irvin and Lillian (Oberg) Purdy in Kenmare, ND. He graduated from Kenmare Highschool and went on to study at Bethel College in St. Paul, MN for two years. In 1952 he transferred to the University of North Dakota where he majored in Business and pledged Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Chuck joined the Army and took Basic Training in Fort Leonardwood, MO. He and Lucie Rodenberg of New Rockford, ND were married in Leonardwood on May 8, 1954. He served his country at Fort Belvoir, VA and at Fort Carson, CO. In 1957, he was sent to Seoul, South Korea. In 1958, they moved to Valley City, ND where he worked for JC Penney.

From there, they moved to Fargo and eventually settled in New Rockford, where he owned Purdy's Shop for Men. He also worked as the Director of Tax Equilization for Eddy, Foster, and Stutsman Counties.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, John; Chuck is survived by his wife, Lucie, and five children: Rolf (Sue) of Jamestown; Meg Ryberg (Mark) of Foley, MN; Mark of St. Louis Park, MN; Scott (Sheila) of Independence, KY; and Carla St. Germain (Randy) of Fargo; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
