  • Pill Splitting: When it's safe, and when it isn't

    Jim Miller|Dec 13, 2021

Dear Savvy Senior, When is it safe, or not safe, to split pills? I have a cousin who cuts almost all her pills in half in order to save money, but I’m wondering if she’s going overboard. What can you tell me about this? Curious Cousin Dear Curious, Pill splitting – literally cutting them in half – has long been a popular way to save on medication costs, but your cousin, if she hasn’t already done so, needs to talk to her doctor or pharmacist because not all pills should be split. The reason pi...

    Kyrie O'Connor|Dec 13, 2021

The New Rockford-Sheyenne girls basketball team traveled to Rugby on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-4, to compete in the annual CNDC tournament. The Rockets started off the tournament slow. The Lady Raiders from Drake-Anamoose came out of the gates ready to win. The Rockets, on the other hand, simply didn't have one of their better games. With senior starter Mya Cudworth out due to an ankle injury, eighth grader Ava Peterson would take her place in the starting lineup. Drake-Anamoose...

    Erik Gjovik|Dec 13, 2021

Nick Berglund was the tallest target in the passing game for NR-S, along with one of the Rockets' top edge rushers on defense. And now, the 6'4", 216-pound wide receiver/defensive end has been recognized with elevation to the highest honor Class 9B can bestow upon he and his peers. Berglund was named to the Second Team of the North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) Class 9B All-State squad. Season statistics for the senior include 42 solo and 38 assisted tackles, eight sacks and...

During the first quarter, both teams were putting up shots left and right. The Rockets held a two-point lead on the Bearcats by the end of the first. The second quarter had a different speed than the first. The Bearcats earned a total of seven points in the second quarter, versus the Rockets who scored a total of 14 points,...

  • Duchscherer takes second place, CHS first in Velva

    Erik Gjovik|Dec 13, 2021

Seven matches in the space of two days is a tall task for any individual wrestler. That’s what awaited much of the 17-team field at the Velva Invitational Tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3 and 4. However, the Carrington Cardinals powered through that early conditioning test, winning four weight classes and advancing to two other championship matches to score 373 points for the team title. Minot Bishop Ryan, with 326 points, came in second and Northern Lights (Rolla/Rolette/St. John) scored...

  • Our Outdoors: The Hottest Stuff on Ice '21-22

    Nick Simonson|Dec 13, 2021

The ice fishing market has exploded in the last twenty years. Where once only a couple of companies dominated the auger, fish house, and sonar categories when I started this column detailing the annual advancements in on-ice technology, now hundreds are present, creating better competition across all hardwater product classes, and a free-market economy that would make Adam Smith proud. This year sees that continued expansion with new products such as the growing electric auger market, and...

  • Southeast ND Ice Fishing Opportunities Abound

    Nick Simonson|Dec 13, 2021

While water levels are down about two feet after a dry spring and summer across southeastern North Dakota's prairie lakes country, the opportunities to find fast ice fishing for perch and walleyes are up, as record opportunities to catch both species exist this winter. Record rains from the fall of 2019 have helped keep waters fishable and expanded the number of lakes stocked with popular winter species according to North Dakota Game & Fish Department (NDG&F) Southeast Fisheries District...
