    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Oct 10, 2022

At the Des Lacs-Burlington Laker Invite this past weekend, New Rockford-Sheyenne sophomore, Kaiya O'Connor, hit her 1,000th assist during the second set of the NR-S versus Ray game on Saturday, Oct. 1. O'Connor has been a varsity starter since last season. In those few months, O'Connor had racked up 729 assists. O'Connor couldn't have gotten this far without the help of these main hitters for the Rockets: Mya Cudworth, Kelsie Belquist, Macey Wobbema, Madisen Myhre and Ava Peterson. Although...

  • No luck for the 'Chucks

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Oct 10, 2022

On Thursday, Sept. 29, the New Rockford-Sheyenne volleyball team traveled to St. John, N.D. to take on the Lady Woodchucks. Before the start of the game, the Lady Woodchucks showed great sportsmanship by presenting a signed volleyball, flowers and a card to Bailey Jacobson. After a recent matchup between the Rockets and Lady Woodchucks at the Devils Lake varsity tournament, the Rockets knew they could easily sweep the 'chucks in three. The Rockets took down the Woodchucks by more than 10 points...

  • Rockets lose second straight

    Nathan Price|Oct 10, 2022

As expected, the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets had a tough outing against the North Prairie Cougars on Friday, Sept. 30. Entering Friday's matchup, the undefeated Cougars had dominated nearly every opponent they'd faced, and had just defeated two straight opponents by nearly 50 points. Put simply, North Prairie have their eyes set on a state championship, and the Rockets were hardly a speed bump as the Cougars continued their march to the postseason. The tone of Friday's game was set early, as a...

Each fall, the North Dakota Game & Fish offers a special youth season for hunters ages 11-15. It's a great opportunity for young hunters to gain experience before the frenzy of rifle season sets in. For these young hunters, their practice in 4-H Shooting Sports paid off. Not only did they put meat on the table, they did so with confidence. These hunters overwhelmingly stated, "One shot was all it took." The nine-and-a-half-day youth deer season is open to residents who are 11, 12 or 13 in 2022....

  • Our Outdoors: At the end

    Nick Simonson|Oct 10, 2022

I’m a fan of end-of-the-world movies, particularly those incorporating the zombie genre into their plot. There’s something that piques my interest in those scenarios where nothing is left but a handful of hardy survivors taking on what remains of a hardened and structureless society of scavengers scraping by amidst the hordes of mindless cannibalistic ghouls. I wonder if I’d make it that far – six months, a year, or longer – in such a situation, but I figure probably not. I’d likely get tetanus...

  • Natural gas prices expected to be higher this winter

    Oct 10, 2022

Natural gas prices for the upcoming winter heating season are expected to be higher than what Montana-Dakota Utilities customers paid last winter. For a variety of reasons, prices could be about $30 more per month compared to the 2021-22 heating season, which runs November through March. “We understand prices have increased for many day-to-day necessities because of inflation; securing a reliable source of natural gas for our customers is facing the same higher price pressures,” said Nicole Kivisto, president and CEO of Montana-Dakota. “Th...

    Oct 10, 2022

October is National Pasta Month – a time to enjoy a new or favorite pasta dish to celebrate the simple goodness of pasta. While most of us enjoy pasta, many may not be aware that the main ingredient in that perfect pasta dish starts right here in North Dakota!
